Horrific racist abuse painted on refugee family’s front door in latest race hate attack after Brexit vote

The family from Egypt have had onions and knives thrown at their house and garden

RACIST thugs painted "Muslims are scum" on a refugee family's front door in another in a string of hate attacks since Britain voted to leave the EU.

The couple, who have four young children, also have knives stabbed into their front lawn and onions thrown at their house.

The father, who did not want to be named, told how his wife has been called "raghead" in the streets near their home in Llanedeyrn, Cardiff and their 11-year-old son was pushed from his bike.

Originally from Egypt, he said the attacks had been reported to the police.

He said: "We are very scared. My children are frightened of going outside. Our house is like a prison.

"They threw knives on to our lawn - one big knife and one medium-sized one. The children have been abused at school and on the street.

"She was called 'monster' and 'raghead' and the f-word."

Mohammed Alamgir, from the Muslim Council of Wales, said the attacks on the family and others had stepped up since the Brexit vote.

He said: "The attacks traditionally have been targeted towards women and by groups of perpetrators but now it is spread across men and women, young and old, by individuals.

"They live in fear and anxiety."

South Wales Police insisted they were taking the family's complaints seriously, but had not made any arrests.

Neighbourhood policing inspector Geraint White, said: "South Wales Police takes reports of hate crime very seriously and those who report such incidents are supported by specially trained officers.

"A number of reports have been received from one family in Llanedeyrn dating back to May and each allegation is being fully investigated."

Since Britain voted to leave the EU there has been a rise of 200 hate crimes reported to the police in the wake of the referendum.

Some of these attacks include abuse in the streets, an attack on a halal butcher and leaflets being sent to Polish families branding them "vermin".

Racist T-shirts have been openly worn since the result on June 23, one man spotted in Romford, Essex, was wearing one which read: "Yes! We won! Now send them back."
