The 29-year-old found the drugs, along with the last customer's personal documents, as he drove from Heathrow airport towards London with his two young kids.

Richard, from Muswell Hill, London, rented the car for two days for £60 and has now slammed the company for failing to check the car properly.

He also claims the company is not taking his complaint seriously - despite being with his five-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son when he made the shocking discovery.

Richard said: "I hate to play the race card here but I'm a young black man in London - what if I had been stopped by police? Who would have believed me that these drugs were in the car when I got it?

"Avis would just say they clean out the cars thoroughly and that's that."

The sales and marketing worker threw the marijuana out of the window near Muswell Hill, but not before taking a photo of the bag along with the other driver's documents.

He said: "I thought what if there's other stuff in there - there could be anything hidden.

"I showed the photo of the cannabis to a friend later and they said it was about a gram and a half.

"I don't have anything to do with the stuff, but look, I live in London - I know what weed looks like and I knew what it was as soon as I saw it."

Richard says he has been regularly hiring from Avis for three months since selling his car and usually rents from Heathrow, despite working in Pimlico, as it is easy to drop them off there.

When he returned the car to the airport and reported what he found, Richard says the person at the desk wasn't interested and just said: "What do you want me to do about it?"

Since then he has had various offers of reimbursement from Avis, but nothing ever materialises.
He said: "I made a formal complaint online and they're supposed to get back to me in 15 days, but they didn't and nothing happened.
