NINE paedophiles have been locked up for at least 65 years after subjecting a helpless teen boy to a horrific campaign of sex abuse.

The youngster, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was stripped, beaten with a stick, and raped by two of the sick pervs.

Alan Priest, 63, has been locked up for life and eight other men have been handed sentences between three and 11 years in length.

Their teen victim was in local authority care when he was raped and "sold like goods" in Birmingham between 2009 and 2010, a three-month trial heard earlier this year.

Whilst sentencing the teen's heartless abusers, Judge Sylvia de Bertadano told them: "Each of you in your own way exploited this vulnerable boy.

"Therefore you are each partly responsible for his situation as a young man who is struggling to get his life back together and finds himself unable to escape the legacy you left him."

Judge de Bertadano added that the teen victim, who complained to West Midlands Police in 2009 and 2010, had been let down by the authorities.

His attackers weren't brought to justice until he complained again 2012.

The judge added: "The victim complained to the police very early on, before he met many of you who sit in the dock now but his complaints were not followed up.

"When he complained he found he was sent to a secure care home which he hated."

The teen, who was said to have felt aggrieved by his treatment at the hands of the authorities, showed "incredible courage" when he went police again in 2012, the judge added.

Jurors convicted eight of the men after 30 hours of deliberation at Warwick Crown Court.

A ninth man was cleared by the jury of raping the teen, but had previously confessed to facilitating child prostitution.

The trial had earlier heard that the teen was left "traumatised" by what he experienced at the hands of the men.

Prosecutor Rosina Cottage QC said the complainant, now in his early 20s, first spoke to cops in 2009.

She added: "Regrettably his contemporaneous complaints were not fully investigated by West Midlands Police in 2009 and 2010."

The abused youngster was raped by both Alan Priest and his partner Ashley Sherrington - who was described in court as having a troubled family background.

The inquiry into the abused teen's horrific ordeal also led to a second victim of a similar age being identified - who was indecently assault by former Special Constable Ronald Potter 15 years ago.

Potter, 79, from Fillongley, near Coventry, West Midlands, has been jailed for three years for abusing the underage boy.

Judge de Bertadeno told Potter: "I don't doubt these proceedings have caused you very considerable distress.

"You were effectively leading a double life which few of your friends or family knew about or even suspected."
