Is President’s Day a holiday?

PRESIDENT's Day, also known as Washington's Birthday, is an annual federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February.

It serves as a celebration of the birthdays and lives of all the President's who have served the United States.

Is President's Day a holiday?

Throughout the majority of the , President's Day is regarded as a federal holiday.

This means federal employees get the day off and federal offices are closed to mark the occasion.

Banks and schools also closed for President's Day, while some shops hold sales in honour of the event.

The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ are closed for trading on President's Day.

Why is President's Day celebrated?

The holiday originally began in 1885 to honour President George Washington's birthday after his death.

Although his date of birth is actually February 22, 1732, the commemoration day was moved to the third Monday as a result of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

The hope to gain three-day weekends for federal employees soon became a national day of remembrance, which can fall from February 15 to 21.

A number of states began to refer to the festivities as President's Day as Abraham Lincoln's birthday also falls in the month of February, resulting in the nickname being adopted in 1971.

President's Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all US presidents, past and present.

When is President's Day in 2021?

President's Day lands on Monday, February 15 in 2021.

The offices of the United States Postal Service are closed and no regular mail deliveries will be distributed today.

The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq trading and the majority of banks are also closed.

Retailers are offering online deals for President's Day.

In 2022, the federal holiday will land on Monday, February 21.
