Menacing ‘Independence Day’ cloud shaped like alien craft over Colombian city on July 4
Phenomenon looms over city on July 4 in scenes eerily similar to cult classic movie
A LOOMING dystopian-like cloud has shocked Colombian locals after the menacing formation rose above high rises.
The phenomenon was spotted over the city Cartagena, in the north Colombian department of Bolivar on July 4 – creating scenes just like in the cult classic movie Independence Day.
As America celebrated their own Independence Day, Colombian locals were shocked to see the cloud, which appeared to be lit up from the inside as it travelled across the sky.
Stunned locals filmed the cloud’s progress, also taking photos of the impressive form in the sky.
The dramatic formation was similar to scenes in the 1996 film Independence Day, starring Will Smith, which saw alien ships loom over the world’s major cities with an invasion killing millions of people.

In iconic scenes, the alien ship opens up with a ray coming down to blow up buildings, including the White House.
But the cloud above Cartagena did not have such a dramatic cause or ending.
Instead, Prognostic Chief of the Institute of Meteorology and Environmental Studies of Colombia, Christian Euscategui said the impressive cloud was instead due to a change in pressure.
He said the cumulus or ‘cotton’ cloud was a product of very "particular" conditions that happen when relative levels of atmospheric pressure are present.
He added it was not related to tropical waves affecting the northern part of the country.
Americans celebrate Independence Day every 4th July, which is a federal holiday in the United States, to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by Britain’s 13 American colonies who formed a new nation and broke away from the British Empire.
