Michael Gove is a ‘warrior for the dispossessed’ says his Cabinet colleague Nicky Morgan

MICHAEL Gove is a ‘warrior for the dispossessed’ and offers the “change and the leadership we need” post-Brexit, according to his Cabinet colleague Nicky Morgan.
She said the man she replaced as education secretary will “stand up for what’s right and not hide from big decisions” as voting on the Tory leadership gets underway.
Mrs Morgan, writing in the Telegraph, said behind that decision to leave the EU was: “A determination to send the political establishment a message: the British people want an end to politics as usual.”
She said with Labour in turmoil the Tories “have an opportunity to respond positively to this national demand for change and address the concerns of those who feel left behind”.
And as MPs cast their ballots today in the first round of the race to decide on the next Prime Minister, she said the answer was her Cabinet colleague.
“We must move beyond the superficial and turn to the substance”, she said.
“We should remember that politics should be about trying to do something, not about trying to be someone.
“We should take the opportunity of this leadership election to ask who has the ideas, the passion and the energy to meet this moment with the change we need.

“For me the answer is clear.
“The agenda that Michael Gove has outlined– reforming capitalism to ensure it works for the many not the few; ending the scandal of excessive pay and rewards for failure; extending genuine opportunity by ushering in a new era of house-building and improving technical and vocational education; valuing the public service ethos and investing more in the NHS – represents a bold vision for change.
“It is a whole nation agenda that speaks to both the 52 and the 48 per cent.”
She said the referendum showed “there are two Britains today”, and - those who have profited from globalisation, and “those who feel left behind by events they did not invite and over which they had no control”.
To tackle it requires an “ambitious agenda”, which will “take courage to deliver”, the former Remain backer said.
“It needs someone who will stand up for what’s right and not hide from big decisions,” Mrs Morgan added.
“Someone with the ideas, passion and energy to get the job done.
“Someone with an unshakeable commitment to being a ‘warrior for the dispossessed’.”
The first round of the battle between Mr Gove, Theresa May, Stephen Crabb, Liam Fox and Andrea Leadsom ends at 6pm today, with the MP with the fewest MPs set to drop out.
