Britain will quit EU quicker if I’m in charge, says Tory leadership hopeful Liam Fox
Former Defence Secretary says Brexit will happen by January 1 2019 if he becomes PM
FORMER DEFENCE Secretary Liam Fox yesterday promised Britain would be out of the EU by January 1 2019 if he becomes PM.
The rank outsider for the top job added that he wanted to cut the welfare budget, and spend more on defence.
It came as he insisted having a Brexiteer in charge of the country would be “preferable” to someone who campaigned to Remain in the EU.
But the ex-frontbencher said the victor would have to make a “lot of comprises across a lot of the party”.
