Axe rampage thug who smashed up his partner’s home snubs bail order to steer clear of victim… and MARRIES her instead
Linda Cormack tied the knot with jealous lover Colin Newport after he accused the mum-of-two of being in love with her ex
A JEALOUS lover who smashed up his partner’s home with an axe has defied a bail order to steer clear of the victim — and married her instead.
Colin Newport, 50, was banned by a court from contacting “petrified” Linda Cormack, 48, after a bust-up exploded into violence.
The rampaging thug swung the weapon at her telly and kitchen table and cut off her landline after accusing the mum-of-two of being in love with her ex.
But soon afterwards tied the knot after putting aside their differences and tying the knot.
Judge Peter Paterson told the thug he had considered jailing him for contempt as Ms Cormack looked on from the public gallery at Jedburgh Sheriff Court in Roxburghshire.
He said: “The purpose of the bail order was not to contact her and you chose to obliviate that.
“I am torn about the issue of bail but I have to deal with the reality of the situation.
“ I find it bewildering that Ms Cormack is prepared to have you back.”

The court heard the victim ended their three-year relationship shortly before Newport flew into a jealous rage at her cottage near Lauder, Berwickshire.
Prosecutor Graham Fraser branded the brute a “jealous” man who relied on his now wife for cash and once owed her £11,000.
He told how the pair fell out after Newport accused her of contacting ex-lovers on Facebook.
She arrived home the next day to find him waiting for her in darkness.
He called her a “slut” and a “liar” before hurling her laptop and phone across the room and grabbing the axe from the kitchen.
Mr Fraser said: “She told him to put it down but he chopped it down on the kitchen worktop then brandished it in the air.
“He started to smash up the kitchen table and took the axe to the phone landline.
“She described herself as petrified as he struck a number of items including the television.”
Newport’s brief Ed Hulme said: “She says everything has been blown out of proportion and all she wanted was him removed from the house and allowed back the next day.”
Newport, of Telford, Shropshire, admitted threatening behaviour last August.
Sentence was deferred until July 25.
