PRISON bosses have finally filled the Yorkshire Ripper’s cell following his death – after lags refused to move in fearing it would be “haunted”.

Warders cleared the cell of Peter Sutcliffe’s belongings two weeks ago, after he died last November with Covid.

But no cons at tough HMP Frankland, Co Durham, wanted to move in.

A source said: “One bloke was frightened Sutcliffe’s victims would torment him at night.

“Staff found it funny hardened lags were worried about that.

"They got an older guy to move in from a shared cell.”

The source added: “They took their time clearing it – but it finally happened with officers in Hazmat suits going in there and removing things carefully and cleaning everything due to Covid.

Sutcliffe, who died at 74, murdered 13 women and tried to kill seven more.

The Justice Ministry declined to comment.
