Franklin Graham compares Trump impeachment to betrayal of CHRIST as he slams Republicans who turned on president

EVANGELIST Franklin Graham compared Donald Trump's impeachment to the betrayal of CHRIST as he slammed Republicans who turned on the president.

Graham's comments came on Thursday, the day after was on a charge of inciting insurrection following the that left five dead.

Speaking to rally-goers in on January 6, Trump told his supporters to "fight like hell" before they stormed and sieged the Capitol.

"Shame, shame on the ten Republicans who joined with @SpeakerPelosi & the House Democrats in impeaching President Trump yesterday," Graham, the son of late Rev Billy Graham and head of the non-profit Samaritan's Purse tweeted.

"After all that he has done for our country, you would turn your back & betray him so quickly?"

"What was done yesterday only further divides our nation," he added.

In a separate Facebook post, Graham continued to rail on those

He claimed "the House Democrats impeached him because they hate him and want to do as much damage as they can."

"And these ten, from his own party, joined in the feeding frenzy," he said of

"It makes you wonder what the thirty pieces of silver were that promised for this betrayal," Graham wrote.

The "thirty pieces of silver" refers to the story of Jesus' disciple, Judas, in the Bible.

Judas betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver, and identified him to soldiers, according to the Gospel of Matthew. This led to Jesus' Crucifixion.

Members of the House of Representatives voted 232 to 197 to impeach Trump, with ten Republicans voting in favor of the insurrection charge.

Graham then continued, saying Trump "isn't a perfect person" and he doesn't "support or agree with some of the things" he did in "the last couple of weeks."

"January 6 was a low point in his presidency," Graham said of the US Capitol Riots.

"We knew he had flaws when he ran for office in 2016. But I, and millions of others, voted for him because of the platform and policies he promised. I still support those.

He claimed members of the DNC "have been trying to get rid of the President since the day he took office."

He claimed the impeachment "only further divides our nation.

"I hope President-elect Biden will keep his word and work for unity as he has said," Graham added.

Many of the ten Republicans who voted to impeach Trump released statements ahead of the vote.

"The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing," Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Rep said in a statement.

"None of this would have happened without the President. I will vote to impeach the President," Cheney said.

New York Rep John Katko said: "To allow the president of the United States to incite this attack without consequence is a direct threat to the future of our democracy."

"For that reason, I cannot sit by without taking action. I will vote to impeach this president," Katko added.

Washington Rep Jamie Herrera Beutler said: "I believe President Trump acted against his oath of office, so I will vote to impeach him."
