Major blaze and chemical blast at aerosol factory

Fire crews warn East Yorkshire residents to stay inside as 50ft flames and black smoke erupt from building

A major blaze at an aerosol factory which sent flames 50ft into the air ignited after "things just started exploding".

The blaze at LMA Chemicals Limited, Pocklington, East Yorkshire, broke out following a large chemical explosion just before 5pm yesterday.

A witness said: "Things just started exploding and the building was shaking.

"We could feel the heat and it was just 'get out of the building now'."

: "The flames at its height were easily 50ft in the air with a very significant pall of black smoke reaching way into the sky."

LMA Chemicals Limited fills aerosols with chemicals including livestock marker, de-icer and cleaning materials.

No one was injured and fire crews remained at the scene through the night to dampen down.
