Run-down bungalow in Sandbanks sold for £1.45m to receive stunning £1.2m makeover
A RUN-down bungalow overlooking millionaires’ playground Sandbanks has sold for £1.45million.
The buyer, who paid many times its value elsewhere, has already bulldozed the tired and tatty 1930s home to make way for a swanky new-build.
It will feature four bedrooms, a cinema room, gym, home office and views of the exclusive Dorset peninsula, home to celebrities such as Harry Redknapp.
The new-build will cost £1.2million and could be worth £3million when complete. But some neighbours say it is spoiling the area.
Peter Lowther said: “I’m just not sure that this constant pushing of every boundary, every rule and limit is good for Sandbanks. Things just get bigger and bigger.”
Many older properties in the same street, Chaddesley Glen, have been redeveloped in recent years, completely changing the street scene with contemporary homes.
Estate agent Adrian Dunford, of Tailor Made, said: “It’s probably the tattiest property we have had on the market recently but it’s all about location.
“The buyer isn’t looking to profit — they plan to make it their forever home.”
Local planning officers decided the 1930s bungalow was ‘of little architectural merit’ and that a flat-roofed, straight-lined three-story house would look much better.
