A BRITISH man accused of trying to assassinate Donald Trump is facing up to 30 years in jail after being charged with three offences.
Asperger's sufferer Michael Sandford, 20, faces two counts of being illegally in possession of a firearm and one count of impeding and disrupting the orderly conduct of an official functions.
Each count carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and a fine of up to £185,000.
Sandford, from Dorking, Surrey, was arrested at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on June 18 after allegedly trying to snatch a cop's gun and kill Republican Trump.
He is said to have confessed to have plotted the attack for a year and was prepared to die during the assault.
The Robot Wars-obsessed reclusive, currently in custody in Nevada, is due in court in Las Vegas to face the charges on July 6.
Sandford last week explained his actions to his appalled father, saying: 'Someone had to stand up for America'.
He made the extraordinary claim came during an emotional meeting in prison where he is locked up with Mexican gangsters.

His mother Lynne said: “He wouldn’t hurt a hair on anybody’s head – everybody has said that. I just want to wrap my arms round him and never let him go."
