Two more mystery monoliths pop up in UK as 9ft pillar appears in flooded Oxford park and another on Sheffield hill
THREE mysterious monoliths have appeared in the UK on a single day.
One of the pillars stands in a flooded Oxford park - baffling New Year's Day walkers who spotted it after it suddenly appeared overnight.
The monolith was installed in deep floodwater in Oatlands Park, West Oxford.
DJ Dominic Utton, who clocked the statue on January 1, said: “It definitely wasn’t there on New Year’s Eve so it must have arrived overnight.
“It’s out in the middle of the flooded field, too far and too deep to get to with wellies, so whoever did it must have had a boat."
The structure stands around nine feet tall.
“From what you can see from dry land it’s about six foot tall out of the water – so maybe nine feet altogether," Mr Utton said.
"It’s a tall rectangle shape, and silver-ish, like it’s made of aluminium.
“Whatever it is, and whoever did it, it’s very cool.
"Just how they did it is amazing in itself – out in the middle of a flooded field, in the dark and freezing cold, on New Year’s Eve of all nights."
A second monolith has also appeared on a hillside in Sheffield, while the third was found near Salisbury in Wiltshire.
All three appeared on the same day.
The Salisbury installation, which stands at around eight feet tall, was spotted on Laverstock Downs by ITV West Country cameraman Jon Scammell.
He said: "I thought this was amazing.
"I've heard about the monoliths appearing on Glastonbury Tor, the Isle of Wight and the US, but to have one on the Downs I've always walked my dog on is a nice surprise."
Jenny Istead, who was walking her dogs at 7am, said: “We were making our way up the hill and I thought, ‘Gosh, what on earth is that?’.
“Right up by the top by the trees was this gorgeous monolith.
"It’s lovely. It was covered in frost but we just rubbed away a little bit and it’s got a mirrored surface to it and a pyramid at the top.
"It looks beautifully made - it is a real work of art.”
