Here’s how many Instagram followers you need to earn more than the PRIME MINISTER
Anyone who manages to become more popular than Marco Pierre White Jr. can expect to earn a very decent wage
He’s the tattooed lothario who shot to fame after enjoying a very public romp on Big Brother.
Now it turns out Marco Pierre White Jr. could be a benchmark to anyone who wants to get rich by doing very little work.
Social media experts have claimed that anyone who manages to get as many Instagram followers as the famous chef’s son can expect to earn more than the Prime Minister.
, which pays ordinary people to post on Instagram, has published research which suggests that 1.5 million people in the UK are “missing out on thousands of pounds a year by not harnessing the earning power of their Instagram account”.
All they need to do to get a whopping great wage is make like Marco and win over 75,000 followers.
“By simply posting twice a week, members with 1,000 followers can expect to make an extra at £4,160 a year,” Takumi said in a statement.
“Accounts with 17,000 followers can earn £26,520 a year – above the average salary in the UK – whilst those with over 75,000 followers can proudly claim to earn as much as the Prime Minister’s £143,462 pay packet.”
Takumi said advertisers were increasingly looking to work with ordinary people, rather than hiring celebs to promote their products.
The firm allows ordinary Instagrammers to choose which brands they want to promote and then get paid between £40 to £2,000 per post, depending on how popular they are.
Dr Mariann Hardey, a lecturer at Durham University, said: “When we think of jobs that pay six figure salaries we immediately think doctors, lawyers – or anything with ‘executive’, ‘chief’ or ‘director’ in the title.
“However, this study shows that new and lucrative careers are being born as a result of the growing social media world we now live in.
“For the first time, ordinary people, with a passion and flair for photography can commercialise their talent and influence – actually earning a living doing what they love.”
The people who are most likely to win over loads of Instragram followers are females aged between 18 and 29 who live in a major city and post about food, fashion or fitness.
Mats Stigzelius, co-founder of Takumi, said: “We’ve found that Instagram influencers with between 1,000 followers and 20,000 followers engage far more with their followers than any celebrity or traditional ad campaign so it’s no surprise that brands are looking to them to promote their products or services.
“Takumi allows Instagram users who are passionate about their work to be rewarded for their talent and capitalise on their influence in a way that isn’t ‘selling out’.”
