Ukip’s only MP Douglas Carswell appears to take a dig at Nigel farage

He rejected claims Farage should be involved in Britain's exit from the European Union

Ukip's solo MP has taken a swipe at his party leader Nigel Farage by alluding that he is not a "serious person with a serious plan".

Douglas Carswell, MP for Clacton, appeared to mock Farage after Vote Leave excluded him from taking part in talks over Britain's exit from the European Union.

It's the latest in a long line of spats between the pair who have been at loggerheads ever since the defecting MP quit the Conservative Party and joined Farage's fight for British independence.

This morning, Carswell tweeted: "Brexit is going to be a process. It will be overseen by serious people, with a serious plan. Gove, Hannan, Grayling."

He made the comment while posting a link to a  article about Farage being frozen out by Vote Leave since the historic win in Thursday's referendum.

They reported the UK Independence Party leader wanted to use his position as head of the Ukip group in the European Parliament to have a say over the terms of British breakaway from the EU.

But senior Vote Leave sources on Friday said Farage would not be invited to join the committee negotiating the Brexit.

Furious Farage said: “I just don’t understand these people – they will never give me credit for anything.

"I have tried for nearly a year to work with these people and fight on a common agenda and they don’t want to know.”

Carswell defected to UKIP and quit as MP for Clacton to run again under Farage in August 2014.

He said he had "lost sleep" over turning his back on the Conservative Party but was pushed to breaking point after discovering the Prime Minister's advisers would "cut a deal" during the in/out EU referendum to "persuade enough voters to vote to stay in".

Despite pollsters predicting a Remain win, the final result saw 17,759,184 Brits backed leave, while 16,580,508 voted to stay.

Just hours after the result, Carswell launched a furious attack on Farage's conduct during the EU referendum campaign.

He said using "Breaking Point" posters with large queues of refugees attempting to get to Europe was a "fundamentally wrong thing to do".

It follows their argument over Farage suggest that foreign patients with HIV should not be treated on the NHS.

He made the comment during a TV debate before last year's general election.

Farage said: "You can come to Britain from anywhere in the world and get diagnosed with HIV and get retroviral drugs that cost up to £25,000 per year per patient".

He added that Britain needs to ensure that the NHS is for "British people and families who in many cases have paid into this system for decades".

But Ukip's Carswell hit out at his leader for being "mean-spirited" and "wrong".

Farage, who has famously stood for parliament, unsuccessfully, seven times made a victory speech outside the House of Commons yesterday.

He said the dawn has broken on an independent United Kingdom- and declared June 23 would go down as Independence Day.

He also called for it to be made a Bank Holiday.

Despite claiming Brexit as a win for Ukip, there has already been a surge in a number of supporters resigning and joining the Tories.

Farage said: "The Conservative party has literally split down the middle over this and I know a lot of Conservative MPs I've spoken to who feel that frankly the way he [David Cameron] and [George] Osborne have behaved in this campaign has been appalling."

He added: "The EU is failing, the EU is dying and I hope we've knocked the first brick out of the wall.

"I hope this is the first step towards a Europe of sovereign nation states; trading together, neighbours together, friends together - but without flags, anthems or useless old unelected presidents."
