THE ETNA TERRESTRIAL

Amazing moment UFO-shaped cloud forms above Mount Etna

Westerly winds and the ‘magnet’ effect of the volcano caused the phenomenon

THIS SPOOKY shot of Mount Etna is so stunning it could be out of this world.

The flying saucer shaped cloud appears to be landing on top of the breath-taking 10,922 ft (3,350m) volcano.

Westerly winds and the ‘magnet’ effect of the volcano create the phenomenon of symmetric clouds above the summit.

The volcano, which is Europe’s largest and most active, is nearly two times the size of Mount Vesuvius and remains in a state of almost constant activity.

It is located on the east coast of Sicily and prior eruptions have been elevated to at least seven kilometres above the summit, mainly due to prevailing winds.

The mountain also amazingly grows and shrinks as years pass.
