Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe died after contracting coronavirus, inquest hears

THE Yorkshire Ripper died after contracting coronavirus, it was confirmed yesterday.

Serial killer Peter Sutcliffe was diagnosed with Covid-19 just before his death aged 74 at a Durham hospital on November 13, his inquest heard.

He also suffered from diabetes and heart disease, had a pacemaker fitted, was almost blind and in a wheelchair.

Sutcliffe’s ex-wife Sonia was next of kin, the hearing in Crook, Co Durham, was told.

Det Insp Claire Lambert said the killer, serving life at Frankland jail, for 13 murders, was seriously unwell for weeks before going to hospital and there were no suspicious circumstances.

The inquest was adjourned until February.
