The huge snake, which measures 5.2 metres caused havoc in the Australian woman’s room, knocking over a lamp and turning on the light.

Monty the snake was so long that he could be in the lounge and Hibberd’s bedroom at the same time.

The terrified woman called a snake catcher to remove the scaly reptile from her house.

Animal expert Dave Goodwin managed to get the snake by getting it to wrap around his arm.

He told the BBC that the python was “choking [his] arm to death”.

He said: "When you go near them they have this real deep gurgle in their throat, which means in other words don't come near me.”

Goodwin got the snake to wrap around his arm by grabbing him with a pair of tongs.

He said: "The tongs won't hold it, it's too big, so I use the tongs to divert its attention and grab it by the scruff of the neck."

";That ensures that the snake lets go of everything else, wraps himself around my arm."

The snake catcher then trapped the reptile in a home-brewing jug.

Hibberd said that the snake has been living in her roof for years.

She said: "I guess he came in to have a bit of a feed or say hello, or he's gone a bit senile. I've no idea.”
