Female fresher, 18, collapses and dies ‘after taking party drug ketamine’ on night out
A UNIVERSITY fresher has collapsed and died after a party as cops investigate if drugs were involved.
Police are investigating whether the class A drug ketamine caused the girl's death, and have charged a 23-year-old man with drugs offences.
On Wednesday, South Wales Police said the female student - who has not been named - was found by flatmates around midnight on Saturday having collapsed at Talybont Court, a halls of residence for first-year students at Cardiff University.
She was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where she died on Tuesday evening.
Police said her family had travelled to South Wales and are being supported.
Lanoi Lidell, 23, from the Pentwyn area of Cardiff, was charged with offering to supply ketamine and cocaine, offering to supply ketamine and MDMA, and supplying ketamine and MDMA.
He was due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
Police say there is nothing to suggest the woman's death is related to that of a 25-year-old man who died after collapsing in Taff Street, Tongwynlais, at around 12.15am on Sunday.
A police spokeswoman said: "However, detectives are keeping an open mind and investigating the possibility that the drug ketamine might be a factor.
"Users of controlled drugs are once again reminded that they should be aware that they can never be 100 per cent sure of exactly what they are taking.
"These drugs are illegal and there is every possibility that they may contain a cocktail of toxic ingredients."
Seven people remain released under investigation on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs in relation to the Tongwynlais death.
