Female teacher caught by husband romping with boy, 16, in hot tub dodges sex offender register
A FEMALE teacher whose husband caught her romping with a 16-year-old boy will not have to register as a sex offender, according to reports.
Amanda Steele, 35, was sentenced to 90 days in jail but avoided the sex offender register after a plea deal meant she was not charged with a sex crime.
She was arrested by cops after her husband told them with a teenage boy.
District Judge Darren Simpson gave her a three to 10-year suspended sentence and told her she would serve all or some of the sentence if she violated her probation.
Steele, from Idaho in the US, pleaded guilty in the summer to two felony counts of injury to a child, but the judge wanted to assess all the facts in the case before handing out a sentence, according to .
After an extensive investigation by the Butte County Sheriff’s office in 2017, Steele was initially charged with three felony counts of child sexual battery committed by lewd conduct.
The probe began after the teacher’s father-in-law called authorities to complain that he had heard rumours of her hanging out with teenage boys at her home.
A probable cause statement filed after her arrest in 2019 states that officers spoke with some of the victims who were ambiguous about their relationship with the Steele.
One boy had told them he viewed their activities as consensual and he “didn’t think it was a big deal.”
In 2018, after being questioned about her relationship with underaged boys, Steele admitted they came over to her house but refused to give their names saying: “I don’t really want to talk about it until I have to.”
In July 2019, however, her ex-husband called investigators to tell them she had admitted to engaging in sexual activities with minors.
He made the revelations after the breakdown of their relationship, saying he had been too concerned about saving his marriage during earlier interviews.
After investigators contacted one of the boys again, he admitted he had sex with Steele while he was still a minor.
According to one of the boys, a GoPro camera was used to record one of their romps but he also said the computer which contained the file had been destroyed.
He told officers he would skip school in order to meet Steele at her home for sex.
At the time, reports indicated if convicted, she could face up to life in prison.
However, the possibility of criminal charges being levelled against her diminished after the plea deal was struck.
