GoFundMe page set up in honour of MP Jo Cox raises £1million in only three days

The page was set up 24 hours after her tragic death

has raised over £3million.

The page was set up by her husband 24 hours after the Labour MP was murdered in Leeds on Thursday.

Mrs Cox’s GoFundMe campaign is officially the largest campaign since the site was launched.

The page originally had a target of £500,000 but this was reached just hours of the campaign launching.

As donations continue to flood in, it has reached a staggering £1,050,810.

The money will go to the charities chosen by Jo’s family and friends, which represent campaigns close to her heart.

These include The Royal Voluntary Service, to support volunteers helping combat loneliness in Jo’s constituency in West Yorkshire, HOPE not hate, who challenge extremism in local communities and The White Helmets, who support rescue workers in Syria.

Her husband Brendan tweeted his thanks yesterday.

A message on the GoFundMe page reads:

Wow – a million pounds has been raised in Jo's honour in just three days thanks to you all. She would be so proud.
The scale and speed of the public response to this fund has been overwhelming and deeply gratifying to all of us. It shows how powerfully Jo’s story has moved so many.
A huge, huge thank you to every single one of you who has given so generously and been in touch with so many kind messages. As you can imagine it may take us some time to get back to you all but we are reading everything and extend our heartfelt thanks.

A a pensioner who was stabbed when he went to Jo's aid, to be given the prestigious George Cross for his bravery.

This has already received more than 25,000 supporters.

Jo Cox died after being shot and stabbed multiple times following a constituency meeting near a library in Birstall, West Yorkshire, on Thursday afternoon.

Thomas Mair has been arrested for her murder. Her death is being treated as 'terror related'.
