Thug jailed for killing dad-of-three Garry Newlove in drunken rage to be freed

A THUG jailed for killing Garry Newlove in a boozy rage is to be freed.

The Parole Board has rejected a bid by Justice Secretary Robert Buckland to keep Jordan Cunliffe, 29, caged.

He argued a drunken cell party last year showed Cunliffe was still a risk.

Due to the incident, thug Cunliffe was transported from an open prison into "closed conditions".

But Judge Michael Topolski QC yesterday ruled there was “no reasons to interfere with the decision”.

He said: "It is important to stress that that was the opinion of all the professional witnesses from whom the OHP (Parole Board) heard except for the prison psychologist whose opinion was that there should be a further period of consolidation before the respondent's release."

Cunliffe, then 16, was one of three yobs vandalising a car who kicked dad Garry, 47, in the head outside his home in Warrington, Cheshire, in 2007.

He was convicted of murder and sentenced to at least 12 years in 2008.

A Parole Board spokesman said: "The Parole Board has immense sympathy for the families of murder victims and recognises the pain and anguish they have endured.

"A senior judge of the board has rejected the application for reconsideration and found that the decision of the original panel was a rational one which was justified by the evidence they considered."
