Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe tests positive for Covid after spending five nights in hospital with ‘heart problems’
YORKSHIRE Ripper Peter Sutcliffe has tested positive for Covid — after leaving hospital.
The serial killer returned to top security HMP Frankland, Co Durham, on Tuesday following five nights with suspected heart issues.
But the 74-year-old was diagnosed with the deadly virus yesterday by prison medics.
He was moved into isolation and will be monitored.
Sutcliffe, given a whole-life sentence in 1981 for 13 murders and seven attempted murders, was stable last night.
A source added: “He started showing symptoms on Thursday.
“The results were turned around quickly because of the danger of him spreading it.
“The worry for him is that he ticks so many of the danger categories for coronavirus.
“He is already in ill health, he is overweight and he is old. If things go downhill for him, it could be very, very serious.”
Sutcliffe is known to be terrified of the pandemic.
When he was taken to hospital last week, complaining of shortness of breath and crushing chest pains, he was convinced he had caught Covid.
But the serial killer tested negative throughout his stay at the University Hospital of North Durham.

Another source said: “Sutcliffe was hugely relieved he had got the all-clear.
But now he is back in the danger zone and worried.”
Sutcliffe suffered from paranoid schizophrenia for 32 years before being ruled stable enough in 2016 to go from Broadmoor Hospital, Berks, to Frankland jail.
