Horror injuries suffered by girl, 18, who was battered by mystery attacker who dragged her into a cemetery
Terrified Millie Godfrey was walking home late at night when she was pounced on from behind
A TEENAGER who was dragged into a cemetery by a hooded stranger who attempted to throttle her said the attack has ‘taken away her freedom’.
Brave Millie Godfrey, 18, was wearing headphones and so didn’t hear her attacker when she was brutally beaten from behind.
The terrified student was pounced on and dragged into a nearby graveyard where the thug tried to strangle her.
She had been walking home alone when the brutal assault, which left her bloodied and bruised, took place.
Millie managed to escape – fleeing to a nearby house - when the man suddenly stopped beating her and walked away.
Now Millie – who said she thought she would die and is frightened to be alone - has relived her ordeal to help trace the assailant.
She said: “Because I had my headphones in, I was completely oblivious that someone was following me.
“Right before it happened I knew somebody was behind me, but it was too late.
“He punched me in the face and just kept going and going.”
“I thought I was going to die. They weren’t stopping.”
The teen was walking home from an unmanned station at Chartham, Kent when the attacker struck shortly before 11pm on April 14.
She ran for her life when the beating suddenly stopped, and the man walked calmly towards the station and police have never caught her attacker.
Millie – who was treated at hospital - knocked on a nearby door, where neighbours came to her aid.
The animal care student said: “I literally left my bag where it was. I left everything and ran.
“Because I was in so much shock I didn’t even realise they had a gate. I just climbed over the fence.
“They were shocked to see my face. It was pretty bad.”
The ordeal left the teen traumatised and terrified to travel alone and she now has to be with people to feel safe.
She added: “My sister will drive me home now instead of me getting the train.
“I’m OK as long as I’m with people. If I’m completely alone I don’t like it. Any small sound, I’m like ‘oh God’, somebody’s in the house, somebody’s following me.
“I’m a lot more cautious. It sucks because my freedom has been taken away from me.”
Detectives are trying trace a man captured on CCTV at the time of the attack who may have witnessed the incident or have vital information.
Witnesses are asked to contact police on 01843 222289 and quote ZY/12073/16.
