FIVE people have been taken into custody after a brawl broke out on a delayed flight in China.

The fight started on board the Saturday night service from Beijing Capital International Airport.

The Hainan Airlines plane had been delayed for four hours.

It had been scheduled to fly to Xi'an at 9.50pm, arriving at 11.55pm.

Shocking video footage shows passengers jostle and hit each other in the middle of the aisles.

The impatient passengers can be seen pushing and shoving in the tight space between the seats.

The brawl broke out because a livid traveller tried to strike a member of the cabin crew.

Other intervened, which turned into a brawl between five passengers.

Once the fighting had petered out, police boarded the flight to settle the matter.

Passengers can be seen taking suitcases down from the overhead lockers as they prepare to leave the plane.

The shocking clip was taken by a fellow traveller who posted the video on Chinese social media site, Weibo.

Five people were taken into custody after the scuffle broke out.

The flight finally took off at 2.50am on Sunday.

Hainan Airline have apologised to passengers for the incident.

Police are investigating the brawl.

In 2013, 18 per cent of all flights out of Beijing Capital Airport left on time, according to Flight Stats.

The majority of the 22,000 planes which left the airport were delayed, making the airport the least punctual in the world.

Only 24 per cent of flights left on time at Shanghai’s Hongqiao airport.

None of China’s airports managed to get half of their flights out on time.

Over the last two months, there have been eight protests against flight delays at departure gates.

During two protests, airport staff were attacked.

The Chinese have even coined a phrase for brawling because of airport delays – “kong nu zo”, or “air rage tribe”.
