ENGLAND WILL enter its second national lockdown on Thursday as coronavirus continues to sweep through the nation.

MPs voted 516-38 to enter a new lockdown from midnight tonight, despite a number of rebel Tory MPs launching blistering attacks on Boris Johnson's data as the government looks to curb rising infections.

MPs debated the second lockdown at 1pm today - November 4, 2020 - in the House of Commons.

This followed the traditional Prime Minister Questions that are held every Wednesday.

All 650 members of the house took part in the crunch vote.

MPs voted on the second national lockdown restrictions after a number of Tory rebels blasted Prime Minister Boris Johnson over data provided.

Mr Johnson announced on Saturday that England will shut down for a second time in a bid to curb coronavirus infections.

It will last for four weeks, starting on Thursday, November 5 and ending on December 2.

Before the vote furious MPs, led by ex-PM Theresa May, launched attacks on the Government's data, saying it was flawed and out of date.

But despite the threat from dozens of rebel MPs who said they would vote down the new rules, the new measures were voted through by 516 votes to 38.

38 MPs defied their whips and voted against the new measures, but after Labour backed the tough new laws they were voted through comfortably.
