Dramatic moment martial arts pro who gang raped British woman in Spain is arrested by armed cops after going on the run

THIS is the dramatic moment a martial arts expert convicted of gang-raping a British woman was arrested by armed police after going on the run.

The well-built Spaniard attacked officers who went to detain him after tracking him down to a girlfriend’s house in the town of Adra in south east Spain.

One of the policemen had to fire a warning shot in the air as the fugitive resisted arrest.

Video footage released by police today showed an officer kneeling on his head after overpowering him with two colleagues before helping to cuff him.

He was led to a waiting van in shorts and a T-shirt before being hauled off to prison to start a nine-year jail sentence.

The 36-year-old, who has not been named, was one of three men convicted of raping a British woman in the seaside resort of Roquetas de Mar in 2009.

He, his brother and a third man carried out in the crime in an abandoned house near a castle.

He went on the run while he was out on bail after lodging an appeal against his sentence.

The other two men convicted alongside him are already in prison.

Their victim stills suffers post-traumatic stress disorder.

Spain’s National Police said in a press release: "Police have arrested a 36-year-old fugitive in Adra, Almeria.

"He is 36 years old and Spanish. A warrant was issued for his arrest and immediate imprisonment so he could start a nine-year jail sentence.

"The detained man, together with his brother and a third men, carried out a sex attack on a young British woman they knew in 2009.

"They got alongside their victim near Santa Ana Castle in Roquetas de Mar and took her against her will to a remote abandoned house in ruins where they raped her.

"A court in Almeria sentenced all three men to nine years each in jail."
