OAP, 77, dies after being mowed down in pub car park as man, 28, arrested on suspicion of drug driving
A PENSIONER has died after being mowed down in a pub car park - with a 28-year-old arrested on suspicion of drug driving overnight.
The 77-year-old pedestrian was hit by the orange Ford Transit van at the entrance of The Harehill Tavern off Underwood Road, Hyde just after 10pm.
He was then rushed to hospital but tragically died from his injuries in the early hours of this morning.
A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving and causing death by careless driving.
He has since been released under investigation.
Police Constable Andrew Sheldrick, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts are very much with this man's family as they try and come to terms with what happened and it's very important that we establish what led to this incident.
