Shocking CCTV footage shows two crowbar-wielding masked robbers breaking into the home of former Liverpool FC owner David Moores before viciously assaulting him.
Released by Lancashire Police, the video shows the men, wearing black clothes and balaclavas, looking round outside the luxury property in Halsall, Lancashire, on March 2, before forcing their way inside.
Mr Moores, 70, was savagely attacked by the pair and was left with a fractured cheekbone, two broken ankles and severe bruising to his arms and legs.
After the beating the robbers locked the former footy boss in his bathroom before stealing £7,000 in cash and some jewellery including a Richard Mille watch which has a distinctive ‘skull’ face.
Billionaire Moores, who is now honorary life president of the Merseyside club, was at home watching Liverpool v Man City when the attack happened at 8:45pm.
DC Michael Mason, of Lancashire Police, said one of the men had a North West accent while the other, possibly as an act of “subterfuge”, spoke with an eastern European twang.
Speaking with BBC’s Crimewatch, officer Mason said: “We believe this to be a targeted attack on our victim, David Moores, which took place on Wednesday, March 2.
“Mr Moores was home alone watching the Liverpool v Man City football match when, shortly before half time, at approximately 8.45pm, he was attacked by two masked intruders and robbed.
“Once inside they subjected Mr Moores to a sustained attack and then they took him upstairs and locked him in a bathroom, leaving him bleeding heavily from his injuries.”
The footage ends with the masked-criminals climbing over a fence holding their bags full of loot.
Mr Moores, who sold Liverpool to American duo Tom Hicks and George Gillett in 2007, was rushed to Aintree hospital following the savage beating.
Police want anyone with information about the robbery to contact them on 101 quoting log reference 1605 or to phone Crimewatch on 0800 0468 999.
Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
