‘Suspicious vehicle’ sparked ‘huge operation’ at London railway station

Cops cordoned off Blackfriars during morning rush hour

POLICE cordoned off a London train station after a suspicious vehicle sparked a terror alert.

Pictures posted on Twitter showed a black Renault Clio parked at the south side of the station.

Witnesses described a "huge operation" and said there were "many police" in the area.

One wrote: "What on earth is happening at Blackfriars station this morning?

"Police everywhere."

The car was abandoned on the Thames Path, close to Blackfriars Bridge.

Emergency services and police dogs were used at the scene.

Transport for London and Network Rail said Tube and train services to and from Blackfriars were not affected by the incident.

A Met spokesman told The Sun: "Police are in attendance at Bankside, SE1 to reports of a suspicious vehicle.

"Cordons are in place while police assess the situation.

"Specialised officers are at the scene."

Police were stood down at 10am after the car was deemed not a threat.
