Chris Christie released from hospital after week-long Covid battle as Trump says Melania and Hope are ‘doing great’
CHRIS Christie has been released from the hospital after week-long Covid battle, as President Trump said First Lady Melania and Hope Hicks are “doing great.”
The former New Jersey governor revealed on Saturday he returned from Morristown Medical Center after a week.
“I am happy to let you know that this morning I was released from Morristown Medical Center,” Christie tweeted.
I want to thank the extraordinary doctors & nurses who cared for me for the last week. Thanks to my family & friends for their prayers.
“I will have more to say about all of this next week.”
The former governor first revealed he was diagnosed with a week ago, on October 3.
Christie had attended a “superspreader” event at the White House on September 26.
People were seen packed together in the Rose Garden at the White House during a ceremony, as revealed Amy Coney Barrett as his nomination to fill an empty seat on the Supreme Court.
Many people attending the event were seen not wearing masks, and hugging at the events.
Christie himself was spotted maskless, talking with and hugging others.
Following the September 26 event, – including President Trump himself, First Lady , adviser Hope Hicks, Press Secretary , and campaign manager Bill Stepien – have tested positive for Covid-19.
In an interview with Dr. Marc Siegel on Fox News on Friday, Trump gave an update on Melania and Hicks’ condition.
“Hope is doing great. I just spoke to her a little while ago. She’s doing great,” Trump told Fox.
“She’s young, she’s strong, and she’s sloughing it off pretty easily,” he said of the former White House communications director.
He added that he doesn’t think Hicks is on any medication, and her body is fighting the virus on its own.
Trump then spoke of his wife Melania’s condition.
“Melania’s doing great. She is sort of in the same category.
“It hasn’t been very tough for her.
He added: “She’s doing great. She’s really doing well.
President Trump revealed his and wife Melania’s coronavirus diagnoses on Friday.
Trump was hospitalized over the weekend – and returned to the White House on Monday.
Speaking with Fox on Friday, McEnany – who herself is recovering from Covid-19 – said Trump “will be cleared to go” and resume activities by this weekend.
She said “Logistically… it would be tough” – but Trump’s doctor, Sean Conley, would determine if Trump could transmit the virus to others.
“I’ll leave it to Dr. Conley, because he has all the granular details of the testing and as to what the medical bar needs to be met to show that you’re not transmissible,” McEnany said.
“There will be a test in place, and rest assured, that test will show it’s not transmissible.
“He won’t be out there if he can transmit the virus,” she added.
The same day he revealed his diagnosis, out of an abundance of caution.
“In consultation with my doctors, I checked myself into Morristown Medical Center this afternoon,” Christie tweeted.
“While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure.”
