Footballer Stephen Ireland and new wife Jessica pose with garish 6ft wedding cake
For the over the top Stoke player it was a case of ‘with this bling I thee wed’ as he married his long term partner
FLASHY footballer Stephen Ireland is at it again – this time posing with a giant cake on his wedding day.
The Premier League player is well known for his tacky tastes and his nuptials were no exception.
Midfielder Ireland, 29, stood proudly alongside new wife Jessica as the happy couple cut the all white cake which towered above them both.
The rose adorned bake – thought to be six foot high – was even branded with their initials in gold half way up.
Stoke City player Ireland’s over the top tastes have been well documented in the past.
He and new wife Jessica are renowned for spending a fortune on their bling lifestyle.
When they invited cameras into their home fans were left stunned by the garish decour and their multi coloured home.
An all pink princess room for his daughter, a personalised pool table and shark-sized acquarium were some of the highlights.
In the past the footballer has bought a £260,000 customised Bentley with special red and white leather seats and the words "To Jess Love From Stephen" stitched into the headrest.
He was also pictured in a pricey Range Rover complete with pink wheels.
The former Irish international suffered the injury during training two weeks before marrying partner of nine years Jessica Lawlor.
He said: “We had been waiting to get married for so long and I was getting better each day, so I thought, ‘I can pull this off’.
“I just had to man up.”
Lawlor added: “The choir started singing Whitney Houston's My Love Is Your Love and I just kind of lost it. I felt really overwhelmed.”
The couple tied the knot in the Church of St Mary Magdalene inside Stapleford Park country house hotel in Leicestershire earlier this month.
They have a daughter and Ireland has two sons from a previous relationship.
Guests included Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, former England player Emile Heskey, retired England striker Darius Vassell.
