CONS at a top security nick found it hard to swallow when their weekend brunch breakfast was replaced with a hot dog.
Inmates at HMP Whitemoor enjoyed a weekly fry-up for sausage, bacon, eggs and toast.
But they complained to staff when the popular brunch was given the boot in favour of a frankfurter and roll.
The jail’s Independent Monitoring Board revealed: “The food provided to prisoners gave rise to various concerns during the year, with the kitchen manager making changes – for example, replacing the weekly breakfast-style lunch with a hotdog – in order to meet budgetary requirements.”
But despite the budget cuts, cons have donated £4,000 of their own grub bought from a canteen list to a local food bank.
The study also revealed that drugs and mobile phones were being regularly smuggled into the Cambridgeshire jail – home to a number of terrorists – by staff.

IMB inspectors added: “During lockdown, intelligence about, and finds, of drugs (as well as mobile phones and SIM cards) continued at a level similar to that experienced in normal conditions.
"As there were no visits….it is likely that these items were brought in by staff.”
The report also said that prison chiefs had splashed out £2,000 on new DVDs to keep cons entertained during lockdown.
