Two in three Brits support banning ALL foreign travel if Covid cases rise

TWO in three Brits support banning all foreign travel if Covid cases continue to spike.

While 51 per cent would like to see all pubs and restaurants closed if infections get out of control.

It comes as the UK registered its highest ever number of daily positive Covid tests.

The Ipsos MORI poll of 1,068 adults found nearly half of Brits would support a second lockdown if matters got worse.

More than half of those surveyed said Government messaging on the Covid crisis is now unclear.

As a result public compliance is beginning to wane, with just 62 per cent of Brits are following Government rules all or most of the time.

It is down from 75 per cent playing ball in May.

But health is still the biggest priority for worried Brits, with 45 per cent saying public wellbeing is more important than the economy.

In contrast, just 11 per cent thought the nation’s financial health was a bigger priority.

Ipsos MORI Research Director Keiran Pedley said: “The British public continue to be in favour of quite strong measures to combat coronavirus, with clear majorities supporting ‘local lockdowns’, banning international travel and night time curfews.

“However, support for another complete national lockdown is less clear, with fewer than half supporting this.”
