Prince William reveals being a father has given him ‘new sense of purpose’ to protect the environment

PRINCE William has revealed how being a dad has given him a “new sense of purpose” to protect the environment.

The dad-of-three said his children – George, seven, Charlotte, five, and two-year-old Louis – have had an impact on his views.

The Duke of Cambridge was joined by a film crew two years ago, who recorded his search for ways to protect the natural world for the ITV documentary Prince William: A Planet For Us All - to be aired next month.

William said he has "always loved nature", but fatherhood has given him "a new sense of purpose".

The 38-year-old meets people in the UK and abroad who are playing their part in protecting and restoring the environment during the programme, according to Kensington Palace.

It also charts his journey from being passionate about conservation to wanting to play a greater global leadership role on the environment, they added.

He said: ";I’ve always loved nature. But fatherhood has given me a new sense of purpose.

“Now I have got George, Charlotte and now Louis in my life - your outlook does change.

“You want to hand over to the next generation, the wildlife in a much better condition."

William added: "Two years ago, a film crew joined me on my search for ways to protect the natural world.

I’ve always loved nature. But fatherhood has given me a new sense of purpose."

“I always believe it is possible to give young people hope and belief that things can get fixed.

"I have the belief that if we all work together, we can make a difference."

A preview of the show showed Kate Middleton telling Sir David Attenborough, who appears on the programme, that their kids were huge fans of his.

She told him: “The children were very upset that we were coming to see you and they weren’t coming.

“They’re massive fans of yours.”

Sir David said: "Kids know an awful lot about what is happening to the world.”

The new show comes after a family rift between Prince William and Prince Harry was described as being the "most profound" in a royal generation.

A new book is set to claim the "seeds were sown" after the split of their parents Prince Charles and Diana.

In January, it was announced that Harry, 36, and wife Meghan Markle, 39, would step down as senior royals - with the couple now living in LA with their one-year-old son Archie.

But reports of tension between the Cambridges and Sussexes had been bubbling long before that with claims that Meghan had made Kate Middleton cry in the lead up to her Windsor wedding to Prince Harry.

Friction between the brothers also surfaced when it was reported that Prince William warned his younger brother to take things slowly with the American actress.
