Tory Ros Altmann clearly has no idea what purpose the public plays in democracy given she nabbed role without one vote

Altmann

IT must be hard for a woman catapulted into Government without a single vote ever being cast to understand what purpose the public plays in our democracy.

Tory Baroness Ros Altmann plainly has no idea what a referendum is or why voters are getting a say at all on our EU membership. To her, the little people have no right to disagree with an MP.

This is the gulf between the metropolitan political classes and ordinary people writ large. It has rarely looked wider.

Labour’s London elite pretends mass immigration is not a problem. Their working-class former voters, who bear the brunt of it, watch this in dismay and prepare to back Brexit, then Ukip.

Meanwhile Downing Street showers knighthoods on Tory fund-raisers and Remain campaign cronies. It is wretched.

Britain is in the grip of an anti-politics fervour, and no wonder.

If voters don’t believe what David Cameron, his Chancellor or even the US President are telling them, this is why.

THE childish insults flung at Boris Johnson by Remain betray their growing terror.

They assumed the referendum would be a walkover, Mr Cameron would proceed serenely towards retirement and his successor would thrash Labour in 2020. The public has not read the script.

Remain may claim an edge on the economy — but it has no answers on immigration or sovereignty.

So Downing Street, through Amber Rudd and others, is now playing the man and not the ball.

Trouble is, the man is Britain’s most popular politician.

Mr Cameron is inflicting huge damage on his own party. How will he ever repair it?

Doctors? No

OUR soaring population is bringing doctors’ surgeries to their knees.

Last year the average wait time for a routine appointment was ten days. Now it’s a fortnight. Next year it will be 17 days.

There is a dire shortage of GPs, its impact made far worse by the vast increase in patients.

That’s partly down to people living longer. It’s also that our out-of-control immigration adds at least a million to the population every three years.

The Government must either find more GPs and build more surgeries or slow the rise in numbers.
It is failing abjectly on the first and has given up on the second.

IF you’re under 26 you weren’t born the last time the Home Nations had even three teams in the same football tournament.

With Ireland, we have four at Euro 2016, and we’ll be rooting for all of them.
What a feast of footie! We can’t wait.
