A TIGHTER local lockdown was introduced in Bolton last night after a spike in Covid-19 cases.
People were told to avoid mixing with other households anywhere and to use public transport only if essential.

The town’s infection rate has hit 99 cases per 100,000 people, the highest in England.
More than 90 per cent of cases are in the 18 to 49 age group.
The new measures were announced on Saturday evening and come into effect immediately.
People should only use public transport to travel to education, work or for essential appointments.
Council leader David Greenhalgh and chief executive Tony Oakman said: "It has been a tough period for individuals, families and businesses.
"But we don't want to throw away all our hard work by allowing the infection rate to rise even higher.

In the seven days to September 1, 265 new cases were recorded in Bolton.
It equals 92.2 per 100,000 people.
