Dems blame GOP for stalling $1,200 coronavirus stimulus checks and slam ‘emaciated’ aid plan
IN A letter to his Democratic colleagues, Sen. Chuck Schumer said President Trump has "given up on developing a plan" to solve the coronavirus crisis.
Schumer also blamed Republicans in the Senate for stalling a second coronavirus stimulus package and said Democrats have remained unified in the fight against the virus.
"For more than four months, however, Senate Republicans have been 'on pause' in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic," Schumer wrote. "And now, as we return to session in the Senate, Leader McConnell is planning another round of partisan games."
comes as Congress on September 8, according to Congress' schedule.
The $1,200 relief checks could be agreed on and sent out at the end of the month if Congress can come to an agreement for qualified taxpayers.
“Hopefully Mitch will enter new legislation next week,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told Fox News on Monday.
The Democratic senator said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the White House could cut their originally $1trillion "inadequate" and "skinny" plan in half.
"It would be more appropriate to call it 'emaciated'," Schumer said.
Early in the letter, Schumer outlined that the fatality rate in the U.S. exceeds 1,000 deaths per day and has surpassed 6 million positive cases.

"President Trump, led by Chief of Staff Mark Meadows has embraced a hardline view that the federal government should be doing less, not more, during this time of national crisis," the senator wrote.
Schumer claimed Senate Republicans are trying to "check the box" and give Americans an "appearance of action" instead of meeting needs.
"We should strive for, and hope we can achieve, another comprehensive, bipartisan bill that meets the moment facing our nation."
