Progressive groups calling for Trump’s RNC to be aired on delay to ‘stop speakers spreading lies’
SEVERAL progressive groups are asking major TV networks like MSNBC and CNN to air the Republican National Convention on a delay to allow for fact-checking.
A letter signed by 10 different liberal groups addressed to various news networks on Monday read: "The best way to combat the spread of disinformation is to stop it at its source."
CNN and The New York Times also run fact-checking pages.
"This one half-night of programming so far has been exponentially more dishonest than the entire four nights of the Democratic convention."
The letter from progressive groups to CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBCUniversal, and ABC warned major networks that the Republican convention would be a place for disinformation.
"Make no mistake, the Republican National Convention’s programming will be a primary source of dangerous disinformation about everything from voting rights, to racial justice and police violence, to medical disinformation and dangerous medical falsehoods about the pandemic," the letter reads.
The letter has been signed by UltraViolet, Higher Heights Political Fund, BlackPAC, ACRONYM, MomsRising, Color Of Change PAC, NARAL Pro-Choice America, EMILY’s List WOMEN VOTE!, #ShePersisted, and United We Dream Action.
