Gun cops shoot and seriously wound man in broad daylight

ARMED police were filmed shooting at a suspect in broad daylight on Wednesday before a man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Cops were called to a block of flats in Runcorn, Cheshire, on Wednesday afternoon after residents reportedly heard “two popping noises”.

Terrifying footage shows two armed officers firing at a man lying on a patch of grass outside.

Moments earlier they can be heard shouting: “Armed police, show me your hands. Do not go for that gun.”

Following a loud bang, they then scream: “Shot fired, shot fired.”

Around five patrol cars surrounded the area and an air ambulance landed at the scene, which was quickly taped off.

The 30-second footage was shared over 6,000 times on Twitter.

Pictures from the scene show scattered debris where the man was lying.

Residents claimed an elderly lady was walking past at the time before police urged her to get inside.

Many voiced their shock on social media.

Arthur Foxache tweeted: “What bit of ‘do not go for that gun’ did the stupid t**t not understand?”

Another said: “Mad out there.”

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Police are currently dealing with a serious incident in Runcorn.

“At around 1.20pm on Wednesday 12 August police were called to an address on the Knoll.

“During the incident a man sustained serious injuries and has been taken to hospital.

“Officers are currently establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident and patrols have been increased in the area to provide reassurance.

“This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no risk to the community.”

A North West Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed they received a call at 2.04pm and an air ambulance took a man to hospital.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "At around 1.20pm on Wednesday police were called to concerns for the safety of a man at an address in Runcorn.

"Officers swiftly attended the scene and located the man at the Knoll.

"During the incident a police firearm was discharged.

"The man sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital." Chief Inspector Sarah Heath, from Runcorn Local Policing Unit, said: “I would like to reassure the local community that this is an isolated incident and there is no risk to the public.

“Officers will remain in the area as we continue with our enquiries and I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to an officer.

“In line with normal procedure, the incident has been referred to the Independent office for Police Conduct.”
