And the new biography Finding Freedom has revealed how the couple shared the news with the delighted Royal Family - naturally telling the Queen and Prince Philip first.
The explosive new book, which was released this week, then claimed the proud new parents shared the news with Harry's dad Prince Charles and brother Prince William - sending a photograph of the little boy who became the seventh-in-line to the throne.
Delighted Meghan and Harry then sent a message to the special cousins-only royal WhatsApp group to spread news of baby Archie's birth.
But the biography claimed Meghan did not tell her estranged dad Thomas Markle.
Instead, it claimed Meghan asked her mum Doria Ragland to message her 76-year-old dad with the news of his grandson.
Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand then reported that the duchess asked her mother not to tell her if her dad, who lives in the US, replied.
In contrast, Prince Harry made sure that Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes and Earl Charles Spencer - the siblings of his late mother Princess Diana - were told the good news.
Baby Archie's birth has widely been reported to be one of the reasons the couple left the Royal Family - with Harry and Meghan wanting to protect their son from the scrutiny and give him a normal life.
Even while they were part of the Firm, fiercely protective Meghan made sure Archie’s christening on July 6 last year was a “completely private affair” at the Queen’s Chapel in Windsor Castle attended by just 22 guests.
While she came under attack for breaking tradition and not allowing the media or the public a glimpse of baby Archie on his special day, Meghan didn’t care, according to the book authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.
Instead she told a friend: "The same people who have been abusing me want to see me serve my child on a silver platter.
"A child who is not going to be protected and doesn’t have a title. How does that make sense? Tell that to any mother in the world."
Meghan’s decision caused uproar with those who believed that as the taxpayers part-fund the monarchy, they have a right to see Archie on his christening day, according to the biography.
The book also gives a glimpse into baby Archie’s first year of life in which “hands-on” dad Harry was in charge of “changing most of Archie’s diapers” to give Meghan, who was nursing the baby, a break.
Harry liked that to be “his ‘job’ especially as Meghan has so much more to do”.
Little Archie also enjoyed baby swimming lessons and music classes.
Meghan and Harry are now living in the US - reportedly moving to their own £8million pad in Santa Barbara after living at Tyler Perry's LA mansion.
It was claimed today Prince Charles helped the couple, who are living financially independent from the taxpayer, to purchase the home.
The couple have also launched a lawsuit against the paparazzi after photos were allegedly taken of baby Archie at while they were staying at Perry's mansion.
