Bride ordered to pay £100 fine and given a six-month restraining order after violent attack

A SCORNED bride-to-be smashed her ex-fiancé’s car with a HAMMER after he refused to pay her back for a wedding dress she never wore, a court has heard.

Sally Hallett, 32, was left seething with rage when she and fiancé Stuart Sams broke up, leaving her to foot the bill for her unused wedding dress and other expenses.

CCTV footage from Sams’ Barnstaple workplace shows Hallett pulling the hammer out of her bag and smashing her ex-fiancé’s car.

Repeatedly bashing the windscreen and bonnet, Hallett then scratched the bodywork all around the car in the March 23 incident.

Her violent outburst came after a disagreement over whether Sams would help to pay for the cancelled wedding.

Hallett said the on and off couple, who were due to get married in August last year, had agreed to split the wedding costs 50-50.

The settlement included a £150 deposit on Hallett’s wedding dress.

But when Sams did not follow through with the money, Hallett turned violent.

The 32-year-old left several messages and text messages for her ex-fiance, threatening that she would get him back before appearing at his work.

It was when Sams again refused to pay her that Hallett took her anger out on his car.

She confessed to police in an interview and told officers: ";He owed me money so yes, I did smash his car."

She has now been given a six month restraining order preventing her from contacting him after pleading guilty to criminal damage.

In addition to the restraining order, North Devon Magistrates' Court sentenced Hallett to a 10-day rehabilitation course and made her pay £100 compensation to the victim.
