A-Level results day 2020: When are grades released and how will they be decided?
A-LEVEL students will receive their results today (August 13), but this year will be different because exams were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The continuing of results day as originally scheduled is a move to ensure that further education isn't disrupted. Here's when grades are released and how marks have been decided.

When is A-Level results day 2020?
This year A-Level results day falls on Thursday, August 13 (TODAY).
Despite no exams having taken place, the government didn't want to change results day as it would impact the current cohort's route to further education.
The government said: "This will enable progression to higher and further education to take place in the normal way.
"It will also allow students time to decide whether they wish to sit exams in the autumn, and to prepare for those exams if necessary."
At what time will grades be released?
The results should be available from 8am BST on Thursday, August 13.
Pupils will find out their results by attending schools from 8am, receiving an email or logging into an online portal.

How will the grades be decided?
No exams could take place in 2020 due to the coronavirus lockdown causing school closures.
Most students will have their grades calculated from information supplied by their place of education.
The overall grade will be a combination of centre assessment grade and the rank order position of the student.
Classwork, homework, assignments, mock exams, coursework and general progress will be used to calculate a student’s centre assessment.
Teachers will then have to order each student from best to worst for their subjects.
Exam regulator Ofqual has said that boards will standardise this information and make adjustments to grades in relation to information from other schools and colleges.
Exam results of students from previous years will also be used to make sure results are comparable
The states that exam boards are "working to standardise grades to ensure consistency of judgements between different schools and colleges, using the statistical standardisation model we have developed with them".
Due to this, universities will be flexible with their admissions requirements.

How many Ucas points are each grade worth?
The Uni Guide says this is what each grade is worth in terms of Ucas points, which you'll need to meet university entry requirements:
- A* = 56
- A = 48
- B = 40
- C =32
- D =24
- E = 16
For AS Levels, the figures are lower as it's not a complete qualification.

Can I take my exams again if I fail?
Officials have been clear that students will not be disadvantaged by these unforeseen circumstances.
But if you're not happy with your result, you can sit an appeal exam in October for AS and A-Level modules.
