Joey Essex has branded Boris Johnson "a bit nutty" - as he pursued the Brexiteering Tory on the campaign trail.

The reality TV star said he had been confused by BoJo's recent ranting about EU rules on selling bananas, adding: "I don't get the whole bananas situation.”

Joey is making a documentary about this month's In-Out EU referendum and headed to Lancashire to try and track down the former London Mayor, who is campaigning alongside fellow Tories Michael Gove and Priti Patel.

It follows meetings with other leading politicians which have left him "50-50" on how to vote on June 23.

And the famously dopey star revealed brainy pals are calling to get the lowdown on the poll from him.

Joey said: "It's quite crazy I have a lot of friends who are really clever, they're like A* students, but they're ringing me up to ask me for information.

"I'm generally saying to them I don't actually know."

Joey added: "I suppose you have to make a decision at the end of it and go with your gut instinct."

Asked who had made the biggest impression on him, he replied: “I wouldn't say any of them really, they're all the same. I think Boris might – I don't know.

“Nigel Farage is the obvious, he's very confident with what he says.

“But then you've got people like Nick Clegg. He comes across quite honest just because he is very subtle.

“Then Boris Johnson who is really fiery and shouts at you. For me, that ain't a blag.

“I would go, 'Oh my God, he must be telling the truth' if that's how serious he is.”
