Rock legend Alice Cooper joins the hunt for a supposed mythical beast in HULL
SHOCK rocker Alice Cooper has joined the hunt for an eight-foot werewolf spotted stalking wasteland in Hull.
Several sightings of the Beast of Barmston Drain has piqued the interest of the School’s Out singer – famed for his horror themed heavy metal shows.
The 68-year-old legend, who often uses blood, snakes and electric chairs on stage, took to Facebook to ask if the sightings are for real.
He wrote on his page: "So there are suddenly several reports of a werewolf like creature near a small town in the UK.
“Do you think it could be real?"
He then posted a link to media reports of beast sightings.
The sightings have been linked to Old Stinker, an urban legend about a giant hairy creature which prowls the Barmston Drain - a water channel built in 1798.
Residents in Hull, East Yorks, have spotted the beast on SEVEN separate recent occasions.
A local woman claims to have seen it turn from man to beast as she stood quaking on a bridge above.
She said: “It was stood upright one moment. The next it was down on all fours running like a dog. I was terrified.
“It bounded along on all fours, then stopped and reared up on to its back legs, before running down the embankment towards the water.
“It vaulted 30ft over to the other side and vanished up the embankment and over a wall into some allotments.”
A couple reported seeing "something tall and hairy" eating a German Shepherd dog next to the Drain.
They stopped to get a closer look and saw it jump an 8ft high fence before vanishing into the night, its prey still in its jaws.
Another woman walking her dog along the watercourse spotted something "half-man, half-dog" in the distance.
She added that her dog was too terrified to continue down the path and started shaking uncontrollably after the suspicious sighting.
The local council have even agreed to keep a running log of people’s Old Stinker sightings.
Cooper’s interest in the mystery has mixed opinions – with some people critical of his lack of local knowledge.
A miffed Facebook user wrote: “Hull is a city, not a town.
“Anyway this creature seems very new, it's never been mentioned in Hull's myth and folklore of the past."
Cooper is currently on tour in Europe with the band Hollywood Vampires, alongside under-fire actor Johnny Depp.
Hull is next year's City of Culture and is expecting a 20 per cent boost in tourism.
