A STUDENT has been viciously burned to death by her ex-boyfriend, minutes after she escaped a blaze in her car.
Sara Di Pietrantonio, 22, died in the early hours of Sunday morning after her scorned ex tried to torch her vehicle.
Vincenzo Paduano, 27, chased the girl after she managed to escape the burning vehicle in the Magliana area of Rome.
Prosecutor Maria Monteleone told reporters that Paduano doused his victim in alcohol before using a cigarette lighter to set her face on fire.
The sick incident was met with horror from members of the public.
Lead police official Luigi Silipo said: "I can say that in 25 years in this work I have never seen something so atrocious."
Paduano is being held for premeditated murder after confessing to killing the girl in police custody.
According to Monteleone, Paduano "didn't accept being abandoned” by Pietrantonio.
She said: “He organized, he planned the aggression.”

Paduano, who works as a security guard, left his post at 3am to wait outside the house of his ex-girlfriend.
When the girl left her house, he pursued her in his car, forcing her car to pull over.
Jumping out, he torched the girl’s car then chased after her.
Silipio said: "He got into her car, and after an argument, doused the car (interior) with a small bottle of alcohol, and doused Sara, too,"
"She ran out, he torched the car, caught up with her, and after about 100 meters", leaving her to die "in an atrocious manner."
CCTV captured the shocking moment the girl was burned to death.
At least two cars drove past the screaming girl as she begged for someone to help her.
Monteleone hoped that the incident would help to persuade women “not to look the other way”.
She advised women "not to keep hidden any threatening behavior by those who insist they love you, but it's not that way."
Chamber of Deputies President Laura Boldrini echoed Monteleone’s pleas.
The top lawyer, who was a victim of an acid attack by an ex-boyfriend, said that women "must understand that those who should be ashamed are the violent ones, not the women who suffer threats."
