Choo chew: Rat knocks out power at train station by gnawing through leccy cables
A TRAIN station was plunged into chaos yesterday by a rat who chewed through a
power cable.
Lighting and electronic boards were all taken out by the power cut in
Aberdeen.
Seat reservations had to be scrapped because the printers weren’t working and
ticket barriers were also on the blink.
Train services were unaffected and passengers were still able to travel - but
the station’s lights and departure boards were out of action for almost 12
hours.
Electrical engineers quickly went into action to find the source of the power
cut.
And they found the dead rat beside the gnawed cable shortly after 9.30am.
A spokesman for Scottish Hydro said: “From what we have been told, a rat got
in among some of the equipment and did some damage to a cable.
“This, in turn, tripped our circuit breaker causing the power to go out.”

ScotRail apologised for the “power outage”.
Rats have open-rooted incisors and molars meaning that their teeth never stop
growing.
They chew on hard materials to keep their teeth down.
