Protesters attacked car driven by man with cerebral palsy who unwittingly drove into BLM demonstration
A GROUP of Black Lives Matter protesters destroyed a car driven by a 56-year-old man with cerebral palsy.
Eldon Hawkins unwittingly drove through the middle of a demonstration in Columbus, Ohio last month and his vehicle was attacked.
On May 31, Hawkins was driving to his Downtown apartment after visiting a nearby restaurant.
The released by Columbus Police showed that Hawkins had passed High Street and was blocked.
As he started to back up, the driver claimed he accidentally hit a person with a bicycle.
That's when he was surrounded by protesters and his car was destroyed.
He continued: “It scared the life out of me. I thought they were going to kill me.”
Columbus police have released a complication of videos of the incident.
Authorities are asking for help in identifying who might have been involved.
In the video, people can be seen jumping onto Hawkins' car and kicking it and then opening the doors.
The trunk popped open, and some people started tossing the contents.
Hawkins added that there were “some nice people who came and pulled me out of the car” and took him to the curb.
One young man could be seen in the video, using a bullhorn to quell the situation and telling people this was not what they wanted.
Hawkins’s car suffered $8,000 worth of damage, according to the news agency.
People from his church and some who attended the protest raised funds to help pay for the damages.
