A PRET A Manger customer locked in for the night by bungling staff said later: “I knew there was enough food in to keep me going a while.”

Michael Dines, 58, rang 999 and appealed on Facebook after staff closed while he was upstairs having a coffee.

He said: “The police said I should go out through the fire escape but I couldn’t find one.”

His Facebook Live plea was met by light-hearted replies before the manager eventually freed him from the branch in Brighton last Wednesday.

Facebook user Clare Jarvis quipped: “Raid the fridge!”

Another local, Gemma Hassell, joked: “If still there, I'd like a cinnamon Danish and a parma ham roll for later please.”

Lee-Ann Kite added: “Can you grab me a macaroni they always run out so early.”

Sally Obeng-Hinneh added: “This is not funny, but I can’t stop laughing. Pleased to learn he’s out now, safe and sound.”

Pret said: “We hope to welcome him back soon.”
